Jining metropolitan area is located in the southwest of Shandong Province, It is a developed urban agglomeration area. Due to the separation of administrative division, the regional growth pole is not obvious for a long time. Based on the city spatial distribu-tion theory and the regional economic relation theory, the article takes the method of qualitative and quantitative analysis, then studied how the Jining metropolitan area con-structed its industrial driving paths.Firstly, summarized the study status both domestic and abroad, and pointed out the research methods and technical route of the article.Secondly, expounded on the background of Jining metropolitan area, then studied the industrial base of the metropolitan area. The conditions for the development of urban areas are favorable, and the planning about construction has a long history. But it is not achieve the desired effect. It has a strong demand for industrial driving:The competition between "Western Shandong Economic Zone Round" is really fierce, so the Jining met-ropolitan area should accelerate its development; The cities are both neighbors, so they have better industrial integration basis; To promote the level of center city to driven the surrounding cities, The integration of metropolitan area is important. From the perspec-tive of the overall situation of industrial development, the industrial structure of the met-ropolitan area is still "two/three/one" type, and the proportion of heavy industry is higher, and the characteristics of industry space planning is "Ji Yan concentrated and the sur-rounding dispersed", so it is unbalanced between them. The industrial cluster scale is still relatively small; the level is still low; the regional horizontal relationship is really weak; the industrial chain partial is short; but each region has spontaneous fusion, and the integration of industry development trend is obvious.Finally, according to the result of industry analysis, the article puts forward the in-dustry driven path and strategy of the metropolitan area. From the view of industrial up-grading and industrial agglomeration and industrial integration, the article puts forward the industry driven path:The Machinery and the Textile and Apparel need to focus on industrial upgrading; The Coal chemical industry and the financial and R&D industry need to be focused on cultivating gathering; The Cultural Tourism Industry and the Trade and logistics industry and the Biomedical industry need to integrate. Then the article puts forward both the industrial space organization, and the construction of industry develop-ment support system and the mechanism of industrial integration development safeguard. This is also the industry driven strategy of the metropolitan area.
