The Research On XBRL Technology And Its Application In China

With the coming of the21st century, a new type of accounting information descriptive language enters our vision and it gets the attention of many countries rapidly, this new language is called XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language). XBRL is a kind of computer language that is used for preparing, disclosing and analyzing business reports, it provides the accounting information system with a kind of standardized specification, and so the accounting information can be transferred through different platforms and can be used repeatedly. The emergence of XBRL provides an opportunity for the revolution of accounting information disclosure, XBRL international organizations and the organizations of XBRL in many countries or districts have been set up successively, the research and application of XBRL is springing up around the world.This dissertation concentrates on XBRL technology and XBRL application. In order to make a beneficial exploration on the study of XBRL theoretical research and applied research, the author makes an embedded and meticulous study. First of all, the author describes the XBRL technology on the aspect of accounting, and then dissects XBRL Specification, XBRL Taxonomy and XBRL Instance respectively. This part provides a theoretical basis for the subsequent study and overcomes the shortage of previous research, so it can provide the researcher with a better understanding of XBRL. On the aspect of applied research, the author uses questionnaire method to survey the XBRL awareness and the application situation of XBRL information platform. According to the result of the questionnaire survey, we come to the following conclusions. Firstly, the traditional method of financial reports (such as PDF, HTML and other formats) can not meet the accounting information demand of the respondents, and it needs to be improved greatly. Secondly, the respondents don’t have a deep understanding of XBRL, we lack relevant researchers, and the financial report in XBRL format has not been widely applied. Thirdly, most experts hold a positive attitude to XBRL, they point out that we should strengthen the publicity and promotion of XBRL to improve the quality of accounting information.The author summarizes four main problems through comparing the situation at home and abroad, searching the relevant laws and regulations, browsing some relevant forums and websites. The four main problems are software development problems, audit issues, security issues and the issue of education and training. To solve these problems, the author puts forward four suggestions,1) Standardizing the software development and improving the level of software development.2) Making continuous audit strategy which should be consistent with the XBRL.3) Constructing multi-faceted and multi-layered security strategy.4) Putting more effort into education and training. Software development is one of the most important steps to put XBRL theory into practice, so we can put the principles of XBRL into effect through standardizing the research and development of XBRL software. Continuous audit will improve the timeliness and accuracy of accounting information, but it still has a long way to go and a lot of problems to solve, this article put forward policy suggestions from three aspects, they are the software environment of continuous audit, the institutional environment of continuous audit and the development of continuous audit software. This article holds the idea that the information security involves three parts, the enterprise, the government and the software developer, these three parts should make joint efforts to improve the security of financial information. In addition, the college education system and the social training system are also very important, so this article puts some proposals on this issue combined with our country’s situation.
