Land is an important carrier for the survival and development of mankind, but also the material base for the sustainable development of economic society, which requires land health and the sustainable utilization of land resources as its basic guarantee. With the progress of urbanization, industrialization and modernization, the demand of people for land increases rapidly, due to some inappropriate land utilization types which results in the deterioration of land health, it has a strong impact on the sustainable utilization of land resources and further causes the serious consequences for the sustainable development of social economy. As the demonstration area for the construction of "Two-Oriented Society" in Hunan province, Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan comes under double restraints of resources and environment with the rapid development of economic society, the contradiction between the land and the people has become more and more acute, for this reason, it is of great realistic significance to evaluate land health in Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan.Based on the relevant results of theoretical research, all the land within the jurisdictions of Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan is taken as the object of study, its health level of land between2003and2010is evaluated. The evaluation index system for land health in Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan based on "Two-Oriented Society" is set up from three aspects including structure, resources and environment, and meanwhile the method of principal component analysis is used to calculate the scores of comprehensive index for land health, and then the health level of land in Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan is analyzed and evaluated. From the results it can be seen that the health level of land in Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan shows a tendency of fluctuant increase progressively. Changsha gets the highest scores (4.84) in2007in terms of comprehensive index for land health while Zhuzhou gets the lowest scores (-3.05) in2006, the difference between the two is7.89. The average values of comprehensive index for land health in Changsha, Zhuzhou and Xiangtan are4.13,-2.73and-1.40, respectively. Finally some measures and suggestions to improve the health level of land in Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan so as to promote the construction of "Two-Oriented Society" are put forward.
