With the accelerated process of urbanization, the "motorization" in China is also increasing significantly, leading to a sharp increase in the number of urban vehicle, thus natural gas and other energy demand continue to increase. However, in recent years,the changing international situation cause the crude oil prices to rise, and the energy crisis could erupt at any time. In addition, the contradiction between inadequate energy reserves and the increased energy demand in China is growing, a series of traffic problems also hinder the development of the city, such as traffic jam, air pollution, traffic accident rate is high and so on. As urban public facilitiy,urban public transport are safe and efficient, economic and comfortable, punctual and low power consumption, etc. Now, more and more contries begin to attatch attention to them. China’s urban transport development has gradually shifted to the development of urban public transport.In order to enhance the city’s image, promote the city’s economic and cultural development, it is necessary to analyze the development of urban public transport comprehensively, study the adaptation between urban public transport and urban development, find the weak link in the public transport system. Therefore, this paper analyzes the theory of urban public transport as well as the interrelationships between public transport and urban development, elaborates the connotation of urban public transport and urban development adaptability. And on this basis, the main methods about adaptability evaluation are introduced. Besides, this paper uses AHP to determine the index weight, constructes overall adaptability index system of urban public transport and urban development from four aspects:construction investment, operational services, economic development and environment.Then use fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method to evaluate. At last,we get the degree of adaptation bewteen public transportation and urban development. Finally, the case of Beijing is estimated, and two international cities’public transport situation are introduced. This paper wants to offer a certain reference for China’s urban public transport development, so that urban public transport get better and better.
