This thesis investigates the feasibility of establishing a Sicilian restaurant in Montevideo, Uruguay. By means of a PEST analysis, an assessment is made of business opportunities of such a kind in the country, focusing on its capital Montevideo, on the basis of macroeconomic, socio-cultural aspects, customer profiles and regulation variables. Moreover, a deep investigation of the Uruguaian restaurant industry was conducted, enabling us to evaluate the size of the demand and to identify the potential competitors. The business plan was created and a financial analysis was made to evaluate the profitability of the whole project.Uruguay has an attractive investment promotion regimen, Law16,906for Investment Promotion and Protection and its respective regulations. In addition to the Investment Promotion and Protection Law, Uruguay has other several regimes that make the Uruguay legal framework even more attractive for investments. In Uruguay domestic and foreign capital is treated equally, therefore, all investors, irrespective of their origin, can access the tax benefits provided by the Investment Promotion Act. Moreover, there are no restrictions on profit transfer or capital repatriation, for which no prior permission is required from the authorities. The exchange market is free, without limitations on the purchase or sale of foreign currency and investments can be made in any currency.(Uruguay XXI)The restaurant industry is considered to be flourishing in the country. According to the Profit and Loss analysis, the restaurant will be profitable from year1. Stable and steady increase is forecasted year after year according to the net cash flow analysis. Moreover, the initial investment will be fully recovered in the3rd year.
