With the continuous progress of science and technology, constantly increasing efficiency of the manufacturing enterprises and the customers’ improvement in the personalized demand for commodities, all these above make the retailers have to face the rapid growth in product categories. Meanwhile, with the increasingly fierce competition among enterprises, the enterprises between upstream and downstream of the supply chain need to work more closely together to create profits. Therefore, it is necessary for the further study of the assortment optimization to put the manufacturers and retailer together in order to obtain the optimal assortment strategy in the whole supply chain.This paper describes the consumer choice behavior with the Multinomial Logit model, and models a mixed integer nonlinear programming whose target is to get the optimal profit of the whole supply chain under centralized strategy. To reduce the complexity of solving the nonlinear mixed integer programming problem, this paper arranges the cost and revenue in the supply chain, and though the analysis I get1) the optimal price for the revenue of the whole supply chain2) the backlogging time, the replenishment cycle of the product, the ordering cost of the raw material for the manufacturer in order to minimize the total cost. At last, this paper gives some product categories and its variable values in random, first obtains the optimal strategy of the assortment planning among these categories, where after analyzes the influences when the production capacity of the manufacturer offered product i changes.The mainly conclusions of this paper are:1)the assortment planning can promote the whole supply chain profit compare to the strategy without the assortment optimization2)improve the production capacity of the manufacturer which offers the product with higher profits can help to optimize the profit of the whole supply chain.
