Macao is a Special Administrative Region of China and was andassumed formalsovereignty over by the Chinese government in1999. Macao is a profound blend ofChinese culture and Western culture because Macao was a colony of Portugal. Gamblingis the leading industry in Macao. Macao was called “Monte Carlo of the Orient”, has along history of gambling and it was legalised in1847. The Society of Travelling andEntertainment of Macau Limited was granted the monopoly rights of gambling in Macaoin1962and opened Hotel Lisboa and Casino Lisboa, laid a good foundation of thedevelopment of the gambling industry in Macao. The Macao SAR government ended themonopoly system of gambling in2002and granted more casino operating enterprises tooperate casinos in Macao. Then Las Vegas Sands, Wynn Resorts and MGM Mirage in LasVegas opened new casinos in Macao. They highly promoted the level of the gamblingindustry in Macao and the industry had a prosperous development. Catering industry andhotel industry in Macao also received benefits. The economy of Macao had a stronggrowth. The personnel of the gambling industry take the important responsibility to serveguests and their jobs are closely linked with the development of the gambling industry inMacao. This thesis will use Descriptive Methodology to introduce the progress of thetourism and gambling industries development in Macao, to study the work, stress etc. ofthe personnel of the gambling industry. To know them thoroughly and particularize thesocial issues related to them. To make suggestions about the supports and the developmentof the personnel of the gambling industry, sustainable development of Macao. And wishthe Macao SAR government can concern the issues and carry out more policies which arebeneficial to Macao.
