China’s retail market is a huge and vast market, consumers are very large. Retailersare gathered around. Market prospect is very broad. With the globalization of economicand the acceleration of the retail internationalization process, more and more famousretailers in the world entered China and opened a new round of geographical expansionand capital concentration. Retail business skills’ international transfer and localization ofthe retail business model is exactly the core of Internationalization. It determines the actualperformance and future directions. Among many successful international retailers, theCarrefour’s business model for localization is masterful. It can be said that Carrefourcombines standardization with flexibility, coordinates and interacts to maximize theireffectiveness in the process of business skills’ international transfer.This paper is divided into six parts. The first part is the introduction including thebackground, purpose, method and innovation. The second part is the summary of retailinternationalization theory including retail international connotation, internal and externaltheoretical research. The third part is the process of internationalization of Carrefour. Itpresents the motives, path and the current development in the retail world. The fourth partis business skills transfer and localization strategy of Carrefour in the Chinese market. Thefifth part is the revelation to Chinese local enterprises. The last part is a high-levelsummary of the entire article.The innovation of this paper is that the retail internationalization process is dividedinto four stages.Management skills’ international transfer and local strategy in Carrefour asthe core of the content is studied, elaborating the successful application about thecharacteristics of standardized factors and the interactive process of adaptation inCarrefour.Comparative research methods are used to highlight the operating differences.Inthe same time, this article will provide some experience and reference to the China’s retailenterprises.
