Study On The Stainless Industrial Cluster Competitiveness Of Private Enterprises

In today’s economic globalization, the main market competition has evolved from corporate to industry cluster. The competitive advantage of the industry cluster, reflected through synergies, gains people’s increasing attention and becomes the new driving force in regional economic development and international competition. Currently, under the guidance of the local government authorities and the joint efforts of Dainan residents, the stainless steel industry of Dainan, which takes the private enterprises as its mainstay, has become a rapidly growing industry in the steel industry of Jiangsu Province. Stainless steel has become the leading industry and pillar industry in Dainan, and formed a certain scale and regional competitive advantage. Meanwhile, the region’s industry develops rapidly, and gained a more important status in the national steel industry. However, as the development of the world economic situation and the science and technology, the stainless steel industry cluster in Dainan meets its development problems and difficulties. Under this circumstance, empirical study on the competitiveness level of the stainless steel industry cluster in Dainan becomes necessary and helpful.According to the network and field research, this paper analysis the develop conditions, the history and the current status of the stainless steel in Dainan. Based on the previous studies, and combined with the characteristics of the stainless steel industry of private enterprises, this paper builds a steel industry cluster competitiveness evaluation index system, and conducted a longitudinal evaluation on the stainless steel industry in Dainan, using the data from2002to2010. The results showed that during the nine years the level of competitiveness of the stainless steel industrial cluster kept rising, but the cluster appeared to be vulnerable when facing crises and challenges. Based on this analysis and the data in2010, this paper selected five typical stainless steel industrial clusters in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Guangdong province, conducted a horizontal comparison with Dainan, and found out the determine facts that constrain its cluster competitiveness development. These factors include the quality of enterprises, the technical personnel and product factors within the cluster itself, and the environment outside the cluster, the supporting service system, etc.In order to enhance the competitiveness of stainless steel industrial cluster in Dainan, this paper gave a number of specific policy recommendations according to the constraints. These findings are all based on the local government, and hoping to be a reasonable and scientific basis for the government departments to develop rational industrial policies to promote local economic development, and for the competitiveness promotion in Jiangsu province, even the country-related industrial clusters.
