With the rapid development of wireless communication business, the demands of more high speed data communication keep growing. At the same time, the mobile terminals and mobile data communication business keep growing with exponential trend. However, the energy consumption problem become more and more prominent with the rapid growing of wireless communication business. Some research show that the carbon dioxide emission of wireless communication takes a very import part of world carbon dioxide emission. The carbon dioxide emission will hurt our environment of the earth. The energy consumption problem of wireless communication system is not only the ecological problem but also economic cost problem. The communication operators of the world should spend too much money to react the energy consumption problem of wireless communication. Therefore, it is very emergency and meaningful to research how to reduce the energy consumption of wireless communication.MIMO(multi-input and multi-output) techniques have been widely used in the third and the forth generation wireless communication. MIMO techniques can use multi antennas to transmit signal. It can reduce the communication system’s outage probability and increase the transmitting rate. However, the multi antennas will introduce the its own circuit power consumption. MIMO systems may not be more efficient than SISO system from the energy efficiency respect. This would not be allowed by the "Green Communication" criterion in modern wireless communication. Therefore, it is important to research the energy efficiency of MIMO system. And it has special practical significance to design a more energy efficient MIMO communication network. MIMO energy efficiency has been research a lot until now. Almost all of the research focus on three respects:hardware, network layer, link layer. However, there are many problems that are not considered in these researches. For example, the spatial correlation has not considered in many link layer research of MIMO energy efficiency. And many research actuality just considered the MISO scenario, they have not considered the MIMO scenario. In this paper, we try to research the mode selection of the spatial correlated MIMO diversity system based on energy efficiency. We hope to reduce the MIMO system energy consumption through the selection of transmission techniques and antenna numbers.In this paper, we focus on the energy efficiency of MIMO diversity system. We propose a mode selection strategy. Our works are list as following.Mode selection strategy of spatial MISO diversity system based on energy efficiency. MISO system is a very popular scenario in wireless communication system because of the low processing ability of the mobile terminal. In MISO system, the base station(BS) uses multi antennas to transmit signal. Antenna selection and beamforming can be used in the base station. We assume that the BS and the terminal can get perfect channel state information. In our study, we calculate the energy consumption of transmit antenna selection system and beamforming system. And we proposed a mode selection strategy based on the energy consumption. In the simulation, we show the effect of spatial correlation and the superiority of our strategy.Mode selection strategy of spatial MIMO diversity system based on energy efficiency. MIMO system is more complicated than SISO systems. MIMO use multi antennas in mobile terminal and can use diversity receive techniques of receive antenna selection and maximal ration combining. Mode selection of MIMO system is how to choose the transmit and receive techniques, transmit and receive antennas. We get the energy consumption of different transmitting systems. Then we proposed the mode selection strategy base on the property of the energy consumption. In the simulation, we show the affect of transmit and receive spatial correlation. At the same time, we test and verify the efficient of our mode selection strategy by simulation.
