A brain-computer interface (Brain Computer Interface, BCI) establishes a newcommunication and control channel between the Brain and the external environmentthrough a computer or other electronic devices, which does not depend on peripheralnerves and muscles. By testing and analyzing of the brain activity and converting thebrain consciousness to the corresponding external command, BCI system can interactdirectly with the external environment, mainly used for helping people with severeneuromuscular dysfunction (such as muscular dystrophy, spinal cord injury patients orpatients with severe stroke, etc.) to communicate with the outside world.P300potential is a positive peak at about300ms after the target stimulus on set inthe EEG, occurring in response to infrequent and or particularly significant stimuli. In BCI system, after testing and analysis of the P300potentials, we obtain signalpatterns for different tasks, by which the subjects can interact with outside world.Based on the existing achievement,we designed and implemented a BCI systembased on P300. The main work and achievements are as follows:(1) First of all, we assesses the relative performance characteristics of four P300feature classification algorithm. The results indicate that linear classificationalgorithm provide the best overall performance and implementation characteristics forpractical classification of P300Speller data, although nonlinear algorithm has greatadvantage in offline analysis, but still difficult to do in the real-time onlineapplication.(2) We designed and implemented a BCI system based on P300. The systemconsists four main modules: Control Center; Signal Acquisition; Signal Processing;Application. To facilitate the management and analysis of experimental data, we alsoadded a data automatic storage module to system, which is used to manage and storethe data in the process of experiment.(3) To verify the availability and stability of the system, we set up a virtual homecontrol system based on the BCI system, and the related experiment. The resultsshows that the system is available and stable.
