Wireless sensor networks(WSN) can collect and transfer the data of objects to bemonitored, and it has broad application prospects in various industrial fields. In industrialprocesses, it has strict requirements about the environmental temperature, humidity, pressureand other environmental parameters as well as the stability of the equipment. Currently, thereare only a few WSN systems which can collect information about various environmentalparameters and status of the equipment simultaneously. Moreover, existing systems generallyhave poor usability and are lack of reliability. For the demand of multiple environmentalparameters monitoring, a monitoring system integrating multiple sensors based on WSN isdesigned. This article analyzes the design principles and features of the proposed monitoringsystem according to the application requirements. Based on the comparison of the advantagesand disadvantages of several commonly used embedded operating systems and short-rangewireless communication technology, a design scheme of the proposed system is determined. The system consists of multiple sensors including temperature and humidity sensor, pressuresensor and accelerometer, and STM32F103microcontroller and μC/OS-Ⅱ as the hardwarecore and its operating system, and the data transmission is realized by ZigBee wirelesscommunication technology. The system can achieve distributed monitoring by installingmultiple WSN nodes dispersed in the monitoring area. The intermittent sleep mechanism isadopted for power management. By using this mechanism, not only the power consumptionof a node but also the burden of wireless network communication can be both reduced. Inorder to meet the need of engineering practice, multi-sensor data fusion algorithms are alsostudied to process monitoring data of the same environment parameter acquired by differentsensor nodes, which can enhance the accuracy of the monitoring. This system is used in the clean room of Jiangsu R&D Center for Internet of Things. Thecommunication performance of the multi-sensor nodes and the vibration monitoring functionfor the equipment of the entire monitoring system were tested, and the precision of themonitoring data of the environmental parameters was analyzed. The results prove that the functions and the data precision of the system meet the design specifications, and the stabilityand reliability of the system are also verified. The proposed system can be used in numerousindustrial processes, and can also provide a reference for the development of other industrialmonitoring systems.
