Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks as a new wireless network mode hasdrawn widespreadattention by various research organizations. Also, Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks is an importanttechnical support to our construction of modern transportation system. It plays a significantrole in the field of transportation. Especially in the traffic accident warning, vehicle automateddriving or aided driving, and has widely application scenario for the vehicle’s control. The routing protocol of GPSR is a kind of routing protocol that can be applied to theurban scene of Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks. But due to the various constraints in the urbanscene, the existing routing protocol of GPSR has a lot of defects. In order to solve thesedeficiencies in routing protocols of GPSR, this paper on the basis of the routing protocols ofGPSR and puts forward the corresponding improvement program. In Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks experiment, the simulation environment has carried onthe related research and design. We introduces NS2+SUMO+MOVE,which are threenetwork simulation tools that responsible for different function module, to generate theexperimental simulation environment, and added obstacle model in the simulationenvironment. Through this design, makes the routing protocol of city experimental simulationenvironment can consistent with the real urban scene. It also makes our experiment simulationdata more convincing. In this article, we analyses on the routing protocols of GPSR, as well as the key researchin urban situations that some characteristics of the routing protocol should have. In urbanscene, GPSR routing protocol may have some shortcomings, so we put forward a new rortingprotocol named GPSR_IMP. The improved routing protocol can better meet the needs ofurban scenes. The improvement measures we proposed including the node location prediction, dynamically sending the Hello message and the emergency response mechanism, etc. Wemade simulation experiment base on the NS2+SUMO+MOVE simulation model. Simulationresults show that the improved routing protocol in data packet delivery success rate or routingload aspects is superior to the routing protocols of GPSR.
