Workflow technology is the abstraction, generalization and description to a workflow and theprocesses among the operational procedure. It is mainly used to achieve the goal of passingdocuments, information or tasks according to some predetermined rules between multipleparticipants by computers. Although workflow has experienced evolution for half a century, it had abroad and far-reaching effect on people and the researchers have never cooling their enthusiasm forworkflow research. In recent years, workflow management has gradually become the new hotspotin workflow research. By managing the resources contained in each business within the workflowsystem, we ultimately realize the improvement of workflow model.This article studies the method of model constructing in workflow environment and the way ofallocating resources exiting in the workflow model. The article first analyzes the currentdevelopment about the workflow and the major problem in domestic and foreign, then studies howto establish a complete workflow model depending on the log information under the environment ofworkflow and take steps to manage the resource within the workflow model constructed on thebasis of the existing situations.In the aspect of workflow model constructing, we extend the traditional Petri net, and study anincreasing resource information description in the workflow and extensible tool for representingbusiness Process–TRPN (time and resource associated Petri-net) model, which is on the basis ofexisting tools, and implement at the description of several constraint information. In order toillustrate the availability of the model, this article presents a process of constructing a workflowmodel from the workflow log using TRPN.In the resource management, many researches on workflow resource management have beenconducted currently. However most of them failed to consider the influence on decision support byconstraint conditions existing during the execution of workflow. For this reason, this paper studiesdecision support methods by taking constraint conditions into consideration and mainly focuses ontime and cost aspects. Based on TRPN, an optimization method for resource allocation is proposed,which takes advantage of restrictions existing in the process. This method optimizes resource sallocation in business process represented by TRPN, and improves the execution efficiency ofprocess with all involved restrictions met.A case study of lead battery recycling is presented to illustrate the two issues and solutionsgiven in the paper. Finally, experiments are conducted to validate the correctness and effectiveness of our method.
