With the development of ocean research and utilization, the demand for underwater communication technology is increasing. The underwater acoustic channel is an extremely complex channel, as the multipath effect results in signal fading, which is seriously affecting performance of underwater acoustic communication system. The underwater acoustic voice communication which is a direct and important way of communication has got much attention. How to effectively carry out voice communication in such complex channel has become a hot research topic in underwater acoustic communication.This paper researches the digital method of FM system in the application of underwater acoustic voice communication, focus on the analysis of digital FM modulation and demodulation algorithms. The simulation of the algorithms is on the matlab software platform. The experiments of simulation are for testing the performance of the system. The analysis of the voice quality is based on the PESQ objective assessment method. The experiments result demonstrates the feasibility of the digital method of FM system in the application of underwater acoustic voice communication.Based on the theory and simulation above, this paper designs a FM underwater acoustic voice communication system based on DSP hardware platform. The core devices of the system are the TMS320C6713DSP and TLV320AIC23Codec, realizing the data transmission by the McBSP and EDMA modules of DSP. To achieves the communication function by transplanting the algorithms from matlab to the DSP. Some experiments were done in order to test the actual performance of the system. The effect of the voice communication was perfect.
