Recently, Terahertz(THz) science and technology has become one of the mostattractive and promising topics in the scientific community, because of potentialapplications include high-speed data transmission, THz imaging, security check,etc. It was acclaimed as one of the world’s top ten technologies that will changethe future. But the development and application of THz technology was receivedserious restrictions for lack of effective THz radiation source and detectionmethod. THz spectrum was the last range of electromagnetic spectrum thathuman understanding and using completely, and referred to as the "THz Gap".Compared with using other methods to produce the THz wave, the vacuumelectronic device was expected to provide high output power and keep thecompact structure. The diffraction and radiation oscillator based on gratingstructure was a new type of THz source device, and it has become a hot researchfield because of compact structure, wide range of frequencies, low operatingvoltage.The diffraction and radiation oscillator with double-row grating and doublegroove was studied deeply in this paper. First, the open resonant cavity structurewas analyzed based on the theory of rectangular waveguide resonance, and carryon further research by using the simulation software. A set of formula for thestructure with grating groove which three times deep of wavelength was given.In addition, the working conditions of two operating mode in the oscillator andthe influence on the dispersion characteristics with different structureparameters were analyzed.Finally, the operating parameters of the oscillator were given through theprevious analysis. The simulation and optimization were carried on by usingthree-dimensional particle simulation software. According to analyzingsimulation results of the oscillator, the following conclusions were drawn: thecontinuous output signal at300GHz produced by oscillator has very goodoneness and stability, and the output power of oscillator reaches several watts.
