The automatic management of potted plants has attracted widespread attention, andit has become the focal point that how to water plants scientifically. Due to lack ofprofessional knowledge, people tend to water the potted plants depending on theirexperience and subjective knowledge, and with the accelerating pace of life, theyusually forget or over water potted plants, leading to poor growth of plants or the wasteof water. Current related automatic irrigation systems are usually large, complex, andexpensive and ease of use is not strong, so that it is hard to use in family. Recently, theuse of sensor technology has appeared on the market for automatic watering system, butit is more a kind of soil moisture and water content information acquisition and displaysystem, not to give scientific guidance on the amount of watering and when to water,and is not convenient for users that lack of experience to use them.In view of the above problems, this paper combines the technology of data mining,sensor technology, time series prediction and the rule base together, and uses themdesign and implement a set of special intelligent automatic watering system for familypotted plants. The system uses the time series prediction technology to predict the soilmoisture, master whether the plants are lack of water in advance and combine with therule base, determine the optimal water time and keep the soil moisture in the suitablerange. The system can master the accurate amount of water by predicting the waterconsumption of plants using time series prediction technique, and then realize optimalwatering and water saving. The paper’s main research results are as follows:(1) The determination of optimal watering time. The system uses time seriesprediction technique to predict the future soil moisture, and combines with the rule baseto determine the optimal watering time and then to provide a stable growingenvironment for the potted plants.(2) The accurate control of water amount. The system uses time series predictiontechnique to predict potted plants’water consumption in the future, and then determinesthe optimal water amount. In this way, the system realizes precision watering andachieves the effect of saving water.(3) Design and realization of potted plant intelligent watering system based on datamining. According to the deficiency of current watering systems and demands, we designed and realized the potted plant intelligent watering system based on data mining,which can save water resource and promote the growth of plants.Through the research above, this paper designs and implements an intelligentwatering system for potted plants based on data mining. The evaluation results showthat, compared to the common watering systems that rely on the set of soil moisturethreshold only, the system of this paper achieves the effect of saving water resource to alarge extent, and promotes the healthy growth of potted plants.
