ABSTRACT:Optical correlator based on optical fiber has broad application prospects in optical fiber communication, optical information processing and other fields. Taking advantage of the theory of optical fiber dispersion broadening to realize the correlation detection with optical information processing is an innovative application of optical fiber dispersion. Optical information processing technology based on optical fiber has become one of research hotspots in the field of optical correlation detection.In this paper, after discussing the present several kinds of optical correlator based on optical fiber in detail, the optical correlator based on chromatic dispersion is studied. And surrounding the influence of light source bandwidth on the system output signal-to-noise ratio, we carry on simulation and experiment. Finally, the optical correlator based on modal dispersion is put forward.This paper has done works including the followings:1) We make simulation of optical correlator based on chromatic dispersion to implement correlation detection of digital signal and analog signal using different light sources.2) The influence of light source bandwidth on the optical correlator based on chromatic dispersion is studied. Also, we prove that the greater light source bandwidth, the system output signal-to-noise ratio is smaller in three aspects of theoretical analysis, numerical simulation and experiment. At last, the advantages, disadvantages and the improvement direction of the optical correlator are discussed.3) Through the analysis of the modal dispersion, optical correlator based on modal dispersion is put forward. We analyze the system structure and the difficulty of realization. In the end, the principle of correlation detection has carried on theoretical study.The research results show that optical fiber dispersion will play an important role in the field of optical information processing. In terms of optical correlation detection, optical correlator based on optical fiber will have broad application prospect, and be good for the future performance optimization of optical communication system in high speed and large amount of data.
