Modified Chemical Vapor Deposition (MCVD) system can produce optical fiber preformwith complex structure, so it is with great advantages in the preparation of the special fiber.This device can program with advanced device to realize real-time control to the manufactureof optical fiber preform. And according to the need, the special fiber with different needs canbe produced. As is well known, the manufacture of optical fiber preforms is the most criticaltechnology in the entire fiber industry. Hence, until today, most of the optical fiber preformsstill come from imports. In order to break the monopoly of this technology, it is imperative todevelop our own optical fiber preform manufacturing system. In the paper, we complete thedesign and implementation of the fiber preform system based on MCVD.Initially, four mainstream optical fiber preform manufacturing technology is introduced.An insight on the technological principles and processes is represented and their advantagesand disadvantages are compared. Furthermore, some new technologies of optical fiberpreform manufacturing are also introduced. The subject focuses on the research anddevelopment of entire MCVE deposition equipment. The overall appearance of MCVDmachine system and some structures design are completed with the help of softwares of3dMAX and SolidWorks, especially the mechanical structure design of furnace shell body andthe heating element, and relevant experiments about actual furnace temperature controlparameters are conduced, then we can conclude that the furnace temperature can be controlledthrough current and voltage. The overall design of the entire deposition machine is presentedand the key technologies are indicated. Streaming tower is used to purify air during theproduction process, whose exterior design and installation are also completed in the subject.The vapor deposition equipment has accomplished automation control by ProgrammableLogic Controller (PLC). Then the design of the raw material supply system is expatiated and arelatively stable temperature during the supply is realized with the design of the constanttemperature groove. The design of mechanical structure and control system are completed,and the actual operation of the constant temperature groove is tested, whose results meet thetest requirements. Finally, with vapor deposition equipment we developed, initial attempt ofproducing an optical fiber preform with MCVD technology is conducted, and with the aid ofthe draw tower of our laboratory, we also try to product single-mode fiber. In the program, we develop an optical fiber preform manufacturing system withexcellent performance, simple and smart operation, and full function, which will provide lotsof convenience for the study of the special fiber of our laboratory in the future.
