China’s industrial robot was rapid developed after entering the new century. As industrial robots, welding robot application is very extensive. Especially for centralized production plants in southern China, the demand for automated production of the robot is very strong. While the visual servo motor function by visual aids robotics research is the future of research focus and further reduce manual work by robot an important breakthrough for a long period.To solve these problems, combined with the actual project, the paper based on digital image processing, knowledge of software development, the study of the general development of welding robots. Through design, programming and verification, developed a welding robot control software, and also for welding related vision technology research and development.The main contents of this paper are as follows:First, the development of welding robot at home and abroad are now analyzed and summarized. Herein the development and hardware structure of the robot will be described.Secondly, elaborated welding robot control software development ideas. Explain the overall structure of the control software modules, and the underlying communication and innovation-a visual way to teach programming implementations described.Third, the introduction of welding related vision research, including software framework building method, torch head detection through visual, detection and three-dimensional reconstruction of the weld.Fourth, introduced a target points positioning algorithm based on rare information in uncalibrated camera’s photos.Finally, made a summary description the development of the full text contents, and the inadequacy of the statement and can be further development.
