The microprocessor technology, multimedia technology and embedded system technology advance rapidly, which provides the base for the development of powerful and intelligent embedded multimedia products. The growing demand for embedded multimedia products, such as smart appliances, smart phones,smart video surveillance, digital set-top boxes, mobile intelligent video recorders, makes the development of embedded multimedia products has practical significance.Based on the platform of DM3730processor and the Linux operating system, using GStreamer, Codec Engine, inter-process communication and other technologies, this thesis designs and implements a set of multi-channel video codec software, specifically including multi-channel video encoder subsystem, multi-channel video decoding subsystem and system deployment software module. The main work and contribution of this thesis are as follows:Firstly, the significance of my research work is proposed together with a brief summary of the present research status.Secondly, in order to simplify the development of multimedia applications and improve the system’s scalability and portability, GStreamer multimedia framework is utilized to build multi-channel video encoder subsystem. Combined with TI GStreamer plugin the coding subsystem design and implementation process is analyzed detailedly. Multi-channel video encoder subsystem managed to complete two-way real-time video encoding simultaneously.Thirdly, the traditional embedded multimedia player only has the capability of one channel video playing. The thesis designs and implements a multi-channel video decoder subsystem. The two parts of the decoding subsystem, including the multi-channel video decoder sub-module and multi-channel video display sub-module, are illustrated in detail.Decoding subsystem can support up to four local video decoder shows.Fourthly, UI subsystem, communication subsystem, fault detection of video monitor and system upgrade software are implemented to deploy the multi-channel video codec software. The experiment shows that the whole system can run stably.The final chapter summarizes this thesis and proposes some prospects of the future research and development.
