At present, the deployable mast as the most basic deployable structure, because of itsrepeatable utilization、easiness of transportation and storage、shorter construction periodetc, which is widely applied in the field of space exploration, many satellite antenna、solarbattery array、optical telescope are based on it, so the study of stretch arm deployablestructure is very necessary. The purpose of this paper is to design a kind of deployablemast which is composed of octahedral module,and carries the research on it. Thedeployable mast composed of octahedral module has the light quality, high stiffness, highreceive rate characteristic etc.Firstly, according to the actual structural characteristics of the octahedral moduledeployable mast, carries on modeling and analysis of its deployment process, with themodel we can solve space coordinates of its any node in the deployment process. Themodel can be used for subsequent dynamics analysis and3D modeling. In addition, studyon the which is used to connect every octahedral module, make a model of its movementprocess, solve the rotation range of spherical joint’s three degrees in the deploymentprocess of deployable mast.Secondly, using ANSYS finite element analysis software, carries finite elementanalysis of the static load on the octahedral module and the whole deployable mast. Thestress distribution and deformation characteristics of the deployable mast, when which isunder various of static load,are researched. The impact, which caused by changing thediameter of the cable or the rod, of the deployable mast’s whole weight and bendingstiffness is researched. The impact, which caused by the prestressing force applied on thecable, of the deployable mast’s bending stiffness is researched.Thirdly, according to the topological theores, carries topology analysis on thedeployable structure composed of octahedral module. There are two kinds of deployablestructure, in the first kind,every octahedral module are all connected by spherical joints,in the second kind, the two octahedral modules are connected by two spherical joints andone revolute pair. Study on both the two kinds of schemes about the feasibility, the degreeof freedom, the existence of negative kinematic pair, the layout of active vice etc.Fourthly, make the octahedral module deployable mast model, and test its expansion and contraction function. Summarize the problem appeared in the process of modelmaking, and improve the model structure. Do research on different deployable mast cablelayout schemes, puts forward two kinds of cable layout schemes, and analyses theadvantages and disadvantages of two kinds of cable layout schemes.Finally, summarizes the research results, puts forward the questions which need to besolved in the future.
