The development of Telecommunication Technologies coupled with a betterunderstanding of Digital Trunking Communication Systems (DTCS) can explain whygovernments are increasingly backing up such systems. DTCS is alsoincreasingly acknowledged as a powerful Emergency Command and Control System. The use of DTCS as an emergency Command and Control System actually reallystarted after the2008Sichuan Wenchuan. The earthquake created an unparalleledsense of urgency across all governmental levels: the necessity to establish efficientemergency dispatching systems became obvious.Other factors have played an important role in the recognition of DTCS: the rapideconomical development of the country, the increasing trend towards theinformatization across industries (Transportation, energy, finance, logistics and otherindustries) are making everybody aware of the necessity to constantly increasecompetitivity and productivity. As of today there is a pressing demand for DigitalTrunking Communication Systems able to integrate various fields (e.g. safetymonitoring, operation management). Across industries, companies are deployingdedicated telecommunication networks with the goal to reduce Operation andManagement Costs and increase productivity. The mining industry is an example of a field in which the requirements are diverseand demanding: safety of the production process, challenge of deploying atelecommunication network underground etc. This paper analyses concrete LTEBroadband Digital Trunking Communication Systems cases and real dedicatedwireless networks within the mining industry. It shows how dedicated solutions cansupport the Management, Control and Command of production at each stage(extraction, centralization of extracted material, vehicle management, main andauxiliary vehicle-tracks, surface processes, image processing etc). What has come to be labeled as Digital Mining can be understood as composedof3different subsystems: Collection and Monitoring subsystem, data transfersubsystem, production management subsystem. The present paper will focus on wireless data transfer/transport subsystem. The digital transfer/transport subsystem isin charge of linking the front-end sensing layer to the application service layer. Thissubsystem uses wireless and wireline technologies, transmitting data to the commandcenter. When deploying this subsystem the proper technologies need to be chosenand the proper deploying strategies need to be picked so as to cover the entirety ofthe mine and provide reliable, stable and real-time information. Here we show some ofthe latest data transport subsystems that use CDMA1X and TD-LTE BroadbandDigital Trunking Communication, and presents a preliminary analysis.
