With the continuous improvement of people’s living standards, tourism has graduallybecome an indispensable leisure activity of many people’s life style. At present, the mainway that people get travel information is Internet, so that people can select the appropriatetourism destination and tourism activities. However, the information on the Internet isdisordered and diverse, and because of the characteristic of the network makes the reliabilityand availability of information changed unexpectedly. This makes searching and organizinga tourist activity has become a very arduous task. Therefore, most people query travelinformation with using the tourism information system. The technology based on thekeyword is currently used by a lot of tourism information systems, however, the query can’texpress the user’s interest and demand accurately in the field of tourism. Therefore, how toobtain useful and timely knowledge from massive data and information and how to meet theneeds of different users have been a challenged task which the tourism information systemfaced. The ontology technology can be understood as a computer model, the informationresource not only has the support of semantic information, but it also can be shared andreused. In order to retrieve the activities which are most interested by the tourist from alarge amount of information, the ontology technology is introduced to the touristinformation system, which is combined with the ontology and geographic informationsystem, improves the performance of the system. Firstly, the paper introduces the ontologytheory, through the research of the ontology’s construction methods and principles, combined with the characteristics of the tourism resources, from the perspective of the classand hierarchy in the domain ontology, attributes and relations, facets of the attributes, examples of the ontology, using the ontology description language and Protégé ontologyediting tools to construct the domain ontology. Then according to the explicit and theimplicit information of the user, we can create and manage the user profile and complete theinteraction between the user and system. Finally, the interested activity of the user couldcorrespond to one or more ontology concepts, what’s more, by taking the factors ofpopulation data, travel motivations, interaction of the user with the system, user’s rating intoaccount, applying many kinds of user modeling technologies, the system could retrieve theactivities and achieve semantic query effectively.
