Design And Implementation Of A Portal Authentication System

With the advent of the Internet era, to access the Internet has become a neccessarydemand of enterprises, schools and government departments, which usually has a LANwith complicated structure. The interaction with nodes and management for the accessrequest are important topics of establishment of a mature Intranet. From that standpoint, aPortal access authentication management system is presented. The system has simpleconfiguration and powerful functions, can adapt for many kinds of network environment.The portal authentication management system using a C/S-like structure, based onthe hardware platform of switch or router. For the requirement analysis and design of thesystem, the function of system is divided into three fuction sets to describe: authenticationset, packet forwarding set and configuration set. The design of fuctions in each sets,suchas network environment support, source network, TCP redirection and ACL issue aredescribed.In the chapter of the function’s implementation, the system is divided into threemodules to: command resolution, daemon, and kernel. The technical details in the threemodules,such as finite-state machine of protocol, user and interface, fast forwarding anduser detection, etc, are discussed. The authentication system implements the functions bygenerating and issue the ACL rules to the exchange equipments, which carry out theconfigured actions to the packets matched the ACL rules.The system allows users to authenticate via pages, without client software. Thesystem support a large number of users, offers a variety method of packet filtering to meetthe demands of users in different network enviroments. It’s appropriate to be applied tocomportation, campus and research institute.
