With the development of high power switches and high energy capacitors, the compact pulse power source is widely used nowadays. The reliability of compact pulse power source applied to specified conditions has been paid tremendous attention. For example, the deformation of conducting bars under the electric force and the surface insulation which is disturbed by the plasma in vaccum may reduce the reliability. This article adoptes an approach coupled with simulations of the conductivity current, the magnetic-field and the structure together to investigate the deformation of conducting bars. Resultant force of conducting bars is calculated by the method of the virtual work. The shear strength and the tensile strength of steel studs that connect conducting bars are checked based on the result of the resultant force. The second part of this article elaborates the research status of the surface flashover which influence reliability of the insulation performance in vaccum. Moreover, it has been illustrated that the process of the surface flashover which is disturbed by the plasma on the basis of the SEEA theory,. The experiments indicate that the influnce of the plasma current pulse width on the surface flashover voltage is feeble. According to the experimental results, a series of insulated boxes for shielding metal electrodes from plasma are designed, and one kind of design is most effective for shielding plasma. On the aspect of electromagnetic compatible, the distribution of induced current and induced voltage are measured, and the induced current flow on the support frame is calculated base on partial element equivalent circuit. Experimental results demonstrate that the pulse power source will still operate normally without grouding.
