Nowadays, with the rapid development of computer technologies, thetelecommunication industry is undergoing a new revolution. IP Multimedia Subsystemwas designed by3GPP for the vision of evolving mobile networks beyond GSM. Themain challenges of current IMS infrastructure are low utilization, poor scalability, highcosts and incompatibility. Infrastructure as a service (IaaS) is the basic service of cloudcomputing. The main reason why telecommunication core network still not using cloudcomputing is that the services of cloud computing is “best effort”, lack of assurance of thetelecom level QoS. Therefore, the work of combining cloud infrastructure with IMS corenetwork is significant. The main issue of combining virtualization-based cloud infrastructure with IMS corenetwork is to meet the telecom level requirements of high response time, load balancingand high availability. Firstly, the cloud infrastructure uses the hypervisor to providevarieties of virtual machines for IMS core network. All the network elements are runningin the virtual environments. Then, we designed a mechanism of dynamic resourceallocation to meet the requirement of high response time. Moreover, we designed analgorithm of load balancing to dynamic control the scale of core network according tocurrent load. At last, a disaster tolerance policy is designed to ensure the telecom level ofhigh availability.Experimental results indicate that the response time of calls meet the telecom levelrequirement of high response time. The24-hour calls simulation shows that the proposedmechanism improves system performance by dynamic allocating resources according tocurrent load. The proposed cloud infrastructure is able to recover from a disaster inseconds by using live migration of virtual machines. All the results from the simulationmeet the telecom level of requirements.
