We want to represent the shape of an image in a simple way. It should contain as sufficient information about the original image as possible. This transformation or reduction is accomplished usually by obtaining so called the skeleton of the image by a thinning or skeletonizing algorithm.Morphological skeletons are useful for the segmentation, representation, and coding of discrete binary images, since their topological information and the original image can be reconstructed by the resultant morphology skeletons. This paper is around the skeleton of mathematical morphology and skeleton extraction and reconstruction algorithm to study work.First this paper summarizes the morphological evolution, research background and the significance of this study. Second, mainly sorting used in this paper, some related basic theory of mathematical morphology and proofing of their properties. It is easier to get behind the study with the basic theory of doing basic.Third, this paper studies the mathematical morphological skeleton i.e. the skeleton of the morphology and properties of the morphological skeleton including continuous and non-continuous morphological skeleton and their properties. In this paper,I have proofed these properties of the morphological skeleton. Final, in this paper lists some common traditional skeleton extraction algorithm.separately has carried on the simple to the advantages and disadvantages of them. Combined with the study of morphological skeleton properties in the previous chapter, the traditional morphological skeleton extraction algorithm is improved so that extracting skeleton has better connectivity and axial symmetry. I accomplish the skeleton extraction and reconstruction of original image with algorithm in this paper.
