Wireless sensor network (WSN) is a distributed system for information sensing,processing and transmission, which has the character such as low-power, low-cost andself-organization and based on various techniques from the areas of MEMS, smartsensor, system-on-chip, embedded system, wireless communication system. WSN hasbeen great used in military, environmental protection, disaster relief, aviation, medicaltreatment and smart home.Among the various application researches, the senor node deployment andlocalization are two important support techniques. The network node deploymentdefines the network coverage and the service area and affects the network applicationperformance.For the question of network deployment such as coverage-trap, nodes redundancyand no re-optimizes a sensor nodes deployment based on glowworm swarmoptimization is proposed when the detection area is known. Simulation results showthat this way of deployment appropriate to the huge amounts of sensor nodesdeployment, and have the characteristics such as high coverage rate and flexibility.Specific to the large error of the range-free localization techniques based onMDS-MAP, a wireless sensor network localization algorithm based on modified MDS-MAP is proposed. The simulation shows that the algorithm can be able to achievegood positioning effect. The range-based localization techniques based on RSSI hasachieved good positioning effect. Therefore, this paper discusses the positioningaccuracy of RSSI-based location algorithm when the anchor node been selected indifferent ways. The simulations show that positioning accuracy achieves the bestresults even in the case of the network have fewer anchor nodes when the anchor nodebeen selected as the following method: the original anchor node is used for locationwhen unknown nodes adjacent to anchor node, the node has been positioned served asan anchor node for localization when the field of unknown node does not contain anchor node.
