In recent years, with the rapid economic growth as well as the rapid developmentof science and technology, people’s lifestyles have been changed, and become moreand more urgent demand for access to the latest information, in the same timeSmartphones gradually entered our lives. Smartphones get people’s attention and love,for they can easy access to Internet information, providing high-end service andenjoyment to people, and greatly facilitate people’s travel and living. In the market,most of the Smartphones use Android system in addition to apple phone has itsdedicated IOS. Android system is an open source mobile operating system which islaunched by Google and based on linux2.6kernel. It was favored by many mobilephone manufacturers for its open source code, good compatibility, portable systemfeatures, and quickly seize the smart phone market after been launched. Androidsystem has many advantages, Such as third-party software development, systemprocessing speed, simple operation, quick switching between programs and so on.Porting Android system to other non-phone Embedded platform has enormouscommercial value.Firstly, the Android system was transplanted to the i.MX51EVK platform. Duringthe process, we have a brief introduction about the relationship of embedded systemswith Android system. We analysis Android system startup process and expound thedifferences and connections of transplantation between Linux systems Androidsystem. It gives details of transplantation of hardware and software support, and thewhole process of transplantation Android system based on i.MX51EVK platform.Secondly, design and implementation of the video intercom system based on theAndroid platform. After Android system was transplanted successfully, on the basis ofcomplete the design of communication processes, applications protocols, and datapacket format, we achieve the development of video intercom system using Eclipseintegrated development environment, JNI technology, and NDK technology.Finally, we do further extension study on the video intercom system. The content includes the study about audio and video quality testing and the problem of acousticecho cancellation on the video intercom system. In the basis of transplanting Androidsystem to i.MX51EVK platform, the paper has guiding significance for transplantingAndroid system to other hardware platforms. The video intercom systemdevelopment and system expansion study based on the Android platform is alsoinstructive for software development based on the Android platform.
