Wireless Sensor Network, which combines technology of smart-sense and Ad Hocnetwork, is widely used in many fields such as industrial control, smart-home,environmental monitoring and military. It’s extremely vulnerable to many kinds ofmalicious attacks, especially wormhole attacks of routing protocols, because of its naturefeatures such as openly channels, randomly deployment and uncontrollable nodes. It’sdifficult to be detected because of its strongly hidden and diverse characters. So it isvaluable to present a comprehensive behavioral characteristics detection and securityreinforcement strategy to build its mechanisms aiming at improving the robustness andstability of the wireless sensor networks. This paper begins with the basic research on wireless senor network, describes thesecurity of wireless sensor network. Thus leads to the object of this study that is wormholeattack. Based on the analysis of the principles, behavior characteristics and defensestrategy of wormhole attack, this paper establishes a defense model, including wormholeattack detection and protocols reinforcement. The model combines the time difference ofarrive algorithm and identity-based pre-shared symmetric key security mechanisms toimprove the performance of defensing wormhole attack. Meanwhile, it applies to the WSNwith OLSR protocol and optimizes the detection algorithm and security protocol. Theimproved model introduces fault neighbor relationship detection algorithm and improvedOLSR security protocol. At the end of this paper, we use the NS2simulation platform toverify the optimization and improvement. The result shows that improved OLSR protocolenhances doesn’t reduce the packet delivery rate and end-to-end delay. Besides, the overallperformance of the latter detection algorithm is higher than the former one, especially itsdetection rate reaches eighty-five percent.
