With the development of computer and network communication technologies,multimedia information has been applied into many fields, such as education,medical, economy, and military, and is playing an irreplaceable role. Multimediatechnology brings big convenience and profit to its users, but at the same time haspotential risks. Since the information data of multimedia is huge, the traditionalencryption algorithm-AES could hardly meet the need of encryption timeliness andrapidity demanded of multimedia data. However, chaotic encryption algorithm couldmake full use of characteristics of chaos, and realized the simplicity and rapidity atthe same time ensuring the safety. Besides, as the popularization of multi-coresprocessors, parallel technology has been applied widely. And parallel encrypt,especially the one based on chaotic, has become the development trend ofCryptography field.In this thesis, cryptology and related theoretical basis are first introduced, andby introducing the encryption process of traditional encryption algorithm AES, itpoints out AES’s limitation on multimedia data encrypting. Then through the studyon dynamic characteristics of two common chaotic systems, Logistical chaos andpiecewise linear chaos, it analysis the advantages of chaos system encryption. Aparallel encryption algorithm based on piecewise linear mapping is thus suggested,which combines the piecewise linear chaotic encryption and parallel technology,realizing the parallelization of algorithm by using MPI. At last, random test andParallel performance analysis are taken on the piecewise linear chaotic encryptionparallel algorithm, which is validated by a large number of experimental results tobe of good randomness, good parallel performance like speed-up ratio, be safer andmuch better than the traditional algorithm AES on encryption time when dealingwith multimedia data.
