With the rapid development of embedded technology and wireless communica-tions, wireless sensor network and its application is widely used in military, environmental monitoring, medical relief and other fields. People also has higherrequirement for its performance. Generally, node is numerous in the network withcomplicated environment, and because of the characteristics of sensor node, it’seasy to cause problems such as network failure for node energy depletion. Due tothe energy supply limitation in wireless sensor nodes, it’s one of the core problemsto optimize the networks’ energy consumption and estimate network lifetime inwireless sensor networks. However, most of current research focused on the node hardware, software andnetwork protocol stack layers by designing energy optimization strategy andenergy efficient protocols. Hope to obtain maximum network lifetime throughenergy-saving technologies. But, these studies don’t analysis the energyconsumption characteristics of sensor network in depth. It can not estimate thenode and network lifetime also. Thus to comparative analysis the networkprotocols, optimize the network structure, ect.Based on the complex network environment and node analysis, build theenergy consumption of nodes and network model to analyze the sensor nodes andthe network lifetime is an effective means for the energy problem. The purpose ofenergy consumption modeling is to predict the energy consumption and systemevolution, estimate the lifetime of node and network, investigate and compare theperformance of various optimization strategies. Then we can make the best choiceabout energy savings. In this paper, we describe the event-driven nodes defined as events, actions andstatus, and build the node energy model by the Queue Petri Net formalized. Thenenergy consumption calculation method is put forward, for the node lifetimeestimation and energy consumption analysis provides a theoretical basis. Modelconsidering the influence of various factors of energy, including hardwarearchitecture, software strategy, service type, topology protocols and channelenvironment, etc. And establish the node energy consumption model based onQPME. Evaluation and analysis of various factors that impact on energyconsumption, estimated lifetime, thereby guiding the design and selection of nodehardware architecture, providing research directions for designing low-powertopology protocols. Meanwhile, the results will compare with other energy modeland actual environmental testing to verify the correctness and effectiveness energymodel from different aspects.
