Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO), because of the ability to enhancing thecapacity of communication system and improving spectrum efficiency, has beenwidely used. However, the receiver of traditional MIMO systems is quite complex dueto the IAI and ICI. Thus a brand new MIMO technology has been studied recently. TheSM system transmit symbols at only one antenna at each time by taking advantage ofantenna index, reducing the IAI as well as receiver complexity.Recently, Multiple User and Multiple Carriers have been proven as hot spots inMIMO system. On the one hand, the interference between users can be determined byjoint detection or precode. On the other hand, the carriers would experience flatchannels using Multiple Carrier technology. Though ICI can be removed byorthogonality, the peak to average ratio is still a problem. This dissertation studies thecombination of SM and Multiple User together with Multiple Carrier, more details isas follows:Chapter1introduces OFDM, traditional MIMO systems and SM system briefly, and then and points the main research contents and outline of this dissertation.Chapter2summarizes the basic principles of SM-OFDM, compared withtraditional MIMO-OFDM. And then this chapter introduces the peak to average ratioproblem in multi-carrier systems. Clipping has been studied and so does noisereconstruction at the receiver.Chapter3proposes a brand new SM multi-carrier structure, which using not onlythe antenna index but also the subcarrier index. Simulation results show that thisproposed system performs better under some circumstance. Furthermore, making thebest of the characteristic of this system, a distance-based ordered detection method hasbeen proposed.Chapter4studies the solution to Multiple users SM system. For one thing, thesystem structure of Multi-User SM is proposed on joint detection. The detection complexity is further reduced by a new MMSE-ML method. For another, the channelState Information (CSI) could be feedback to the transmitter so as to preprocess. Threedifferent linear precoding techniques are studied in MU-SM, which are Zero ForcingChannel Inversion (ZFCI), Minimum Mean Square Error Channel Inversion (MMSECI)and Block Diagonalization (BD).Chapter5contains the summation of the whole dissertation and the contributes ofstudies. And then several possible aspects of research in the future have been sketchedout.
