Almost joint source/channel coding (JSCC) technology was an optimizationquestion in the situation of limit communication resources. In the system, soure coderand channel coder were combined a soure-channel coder efficiently. The unequal errorprotection (UEP) could achieve super performance with lower complexity, good agilityand easy realization.The embedded codestream structures and a variety of progressive imagecompression methods provided by JPEG2000make it attractive for image transmissionpurposes. JPEG2000not only integrate some excellences of JPEG, but also have lotsuperiority that other codes cannot achieve.At first, this thesis gave a general description of JPEG2000error resilience (ER)tools and had a research about its applications in image transmission. With that, thisthesis proposed a JSCC scheme with UEP for transmission of JPEG2000codestreamsover correlated block fading channels. It combines forward error correction (FEC) andJPEG2000error resilience (ER) mechanisms to minimize the end–to-end imagedistortion according to channel conditions.Then, this JSCC scheme was software realized by C language, and simulated insimulation testing platform for image communication. Simulation results show asignificant improvement about0.7-1.3dB over the based two-level scheme in quality ofreceived images.
