The great development of Internet causes increasing of the network traffic. And thenetwork environment is becoming more complex. Due to the simple function of thetraditional network nodes, they are no longer able to provide the best service forcommunication. In order to provide the universal service on existing and future networktraffic, the network nodes should improve the scalability and flexibility.Most of the existing network nodes, which are manufactured by Cisco, Huawei orsome other Manufacturers, are design by the hardward. Hardware network nodes canprovide better performance and stability but lack scalability and flexibility. Most ofsoftware network nods can provide better scalability and flexibility, for example ClickModular Router, XORP and so on. While the disparity in performance betweensoftware network nodes and hardware network nodes is great.In addition to the network nodes, a number of new network technologies can alsoenhance the scalability and flexibility of the network nodes, for example the OpenFlowtechnologies. OpenFlow technology provides flow-based matching which can classifythe network traffic effectively. OpenFlow also provides Software-based forwardingpolicy management. So users can customize forwarding rules for their needs.In order to make the software network nodes to provide greater scalability andflexibility and achieve a certain balance in performance at the same time, a newarchitecture of software-defined router has been design. A software-defined routerprototype has been developed by using for reference and modifying the existingsoftware router. In addition test the prototype for verifying the feasibility of theprototype.Ther a new software-defined switch which can support OpenFlow technology hasbeen developed by using for reference and modifying the existing software switch. Inaddition test the prototype for verifying the feasibility of the prototype.In summary, we design and research a new software-defined network nodestructure, and develop and verify a prototype for the research.
