The object of this thesis is touching-emotion used by hosts in Chinese TV interview programs. Based on previous studies, the present study analyzes hosts’ touching-emotion languages and applies qualitative method. The analysis takes Verschueren’s Adaptation Theory as the framework. The study aims are to investigate the dynamic process of touching-emotion from context and structure and to explore the process of the construction of touching-emotion.The two main questions researched in this thesis are:1. how do hosts adapt to context and structure to reach the goal of touching-emotion?2. How do hosts construct touching-emotion?As for the above two questions, the author analyzes the process of adaptation of context and structure in a detailed way, including adaptation to ingredients of context and structure. The author finds that programs gain successful touching-emotion effects because of hosts’adaptation to context and structure. Based on the above analysis, three stages of the construction of touching-emotion are put forward by the author. It should be noted that these three stages overlap with one another and not all of them appear in every process of touching-emotion.The author tends to confirm the strong explanatory power of Verschueren’s Adaptation Theory. At the same time, the author hopes that this thesis can help hosts utilize touching-emotion preferably so as to investigate guests’ true feelings and to get high audience rating. Last but not least, the author attempts to enhance people’s understanding of touching-emotion.
