With the development of science and technology, the energy issue hasbecome a problem of national development strategies, therefore energy-savingproducts develop rapidly. Now the light source of ship searchlight is high-powermetal halide lamp, the power is more than5kW,taking up a lot of energy ship. LEDsown numerous advantages, who will be the protagonist of lighting in the future. Withresponse to this trend, in the paper, a freeform lens has been made and designed forsearchlight. High-power LED is used as the source. Specific work is as follows:In the paper, it mainly research on the design of ship searchlight. It detail as follows:(1) Analysis the factor which impacts of the optical efficiency factor of LEDchip, through the application of the compound parabolic concentrator (CPC) theory,the analysis and design of the CPC reflector cup applied to the LED package, toimprove the optical efficiency of the LED, accurate control of the LED light emittingangles.(2) Considering the weather of the use of Searchlight,mostly foggy or rainy,which mainly affect its irradiation distance. We have done experimental study on theperformance of through the fog about different color LED light source, combinedwith physical oceanography, atmospheric physics, and the characteristics of signallight. The research derived use of freshwater and seawater environments, infreshwater fog,LED on yellow light transmittance is best,in the case of sea fog,yellow light transmittance is better. Therefore it is convenient to select the colortemperature of white LED to accommodate the use of the environment in design.(3) It has summarized the current LED illumination optical design method, andcompared the pros and cons of the various methods. On account of the nationalstandards of ship lighting, in the paper energy conservation method has beenproposed for freeform lens design. And simultaneously B-spline theory has beenused for algorithm optimization. Finally, a high-power LED searchlight ship freeformlens has been designed by the proposed method. It commendably meets the designrequirements, and the structure of the lens is relatively simple.
