In the21st century, the economy and science of the world has developed rapidly. The ocean and ocean economic impact on the world economy is a new area. The proportion of Marine science and technology is becoming more and more important. Promoting the development of science and technology as a new important index of measuring national comprehensive strength. The coastline of China is more than18000kilometers. Marine economy has started to be incorporated into the national economic development plan, at present our country the development of ocean has towards the stage of comprehensive development and utilization. How to reasonable use of Marine resources has become a new topic.Marine resources development cannot leave the underwater imaging technology, with optical imaging applications in water, the scholars of underwater optical research also more and more deeply, there are a lot of used in underwater detection system has been developed. These systems have improve the quality of the underwater imaging, but distortion, degradation phenomenon of the image still exist. So it is necessary for us to understand the underwater light propagation, the study of image degradation and restoration method.At first, this paper introduces the underwater optical imaging technology, the spread of light in water research background and foreign development present situation, and now people research progress of underwater optical imaging MTF. Overview of underwater optical basic theory in water and light scattering theory, the radiative transfer theory of light in the water and the underwater optical imaging principle, do set the stage for research are introduced below. In order to better research of underwater optical, most popular method is to simulate underwater light transmission, through the Monte Carlo method, abstract the model of the movement of the photons in the underwater, starting from the motion of a single photon, simulate the underwater light beam transmission and modeling analysis. By Monte Carlo method and Mie scattering theory, and the scattering phase function equation approximation, the application of H-G finished underwater simulation in the process of the propagation of photons, and through the simulation results and research abstract model, the calculation method of MTF are obtained. Research of underwater optical imaging modulation transfer function (MTF) of the main purpose is to understand the cause of underwater image degradation, and degradation image by the MTF recovery, this is a very practical theory. Obtained by simulation of the MTF of angular frequency MTF and space, target distance, and summarized. Finally come to a conclusion:with the increase of the angular frequency MTF value drops rapidly; In angular frequency of the same circumstances, the higher multiples attenuation distance, the smaller the MTF:as to the use of MTF and validation of the MTF algorithm, this paper proposes a treatment method of MTF for underwater degraded image is used, mainly for denoising and MTF stretching of two steps, finally obtained the reasonable results.
