Since the beginning of the twenty-first century,3D technology has achieved a rapid development. Traditional stereoscopic filmmaking camera is not only expensive, but also need a complex operation, resulting in scarce kinds of three-dimensional cameras for ordinary consumers to choose, and it has greatly restricted the popularity of the stereoscopic camera. Also, cameras that are capable of capturing3D pictures in a horizontal range of360degrees are rare. Against this background, developing a new type of stereo imaging system with panoramic shooting and local high-definition stereoscopic close-up shooting is conforming to the trend of3D technology development and market demand.Omni-directional vision sensor (ODVS) is capable of capturing pictures within the range of360degrees at the same time by combining CCD camera and hyperbolic reflective mirror to build an imaging system. It can be used as a high-resolution panoramic camera with characteristics like fixed single view point, low cost, fast imaging and so on by improving the resolution of the CCD camera. According to the imaging characteristics of ODVS, in this paper, we use four ODVS to build a binocular stereo imaging system to cover the full range of visual angle, thus to realize the capturing of panoramic stereoscopic pictures. Then, based on the azimuth and depth information provided by panoramic stereoscopic pictures, we can build up a high-definition close-up stereoscopic imaging system with the intelligent function of adjusting its own parameters automatically. So we build an intelligent stereoscopic camera consists of the panoramic stereoscopic imaging system and the close-up stereoscopic imaging system.The main work and results of this paper are as follows:1. Design and develop a panoramic stereoscopic camera based on the mechanism of human stereoscopic vision by utilizing the single view point panoramic imaging technology. Firstly, we design a single view point panoramic camera. Then, use four of the panoramic cameras to build an omni-directional binocular stereo imaging system. After that, study the technology of omni-directional image unwrapping and stereoscopic matching to obtain a full range of the depth information as well as improve the quality of the stereoscopic picture. 2. Research on human stereoscopic imaging mechanism, use two HD cameras to design and realize a computer-controlled, high-definition close-up stereoscopic camera with adjustable parameters, so as to capture pictures with highlighted three-dimensional effect.3. Research on the spatial relationship between panoramic stereoscopic vision and close-up stereoscopic vision to achieve a quick mapping of panoramic stereoscopic video image and close-up stereoscopic image, thus to realize automatic shooting of close-up stereoscopic image with panoramic point-touch control. Meanwhile, utilize the depth information from panoramic pictures to realize automatic adjustment of shooting direction, camera angle and other parameters of close-up stereoscopic camera.4. Complete the docking of hardware and software interfaces of panoramic stereoscopic imaging technology and close-up stereoscopic imaging technology, thus to realize a new type of intelligent3D shooting device with the perfect combination of the two abovementioned stereoscopic imaging technology.
