As a new mobile distributed network structure, the wireless mesh networks (WMNs) of non-infrastructure and easy deployment can be widely applied to many prospective and valuable fields such as business, scientific research, military and civilian use. Due to limited resources and severe environment interference, the nodes of wireless mesh networks are easily malfunctioned or even shut down completely that could potentially compromise the stability of Mesh network’s normal function, may eventually cut users off from services. Therefore when a node go faulty, it is very urgent for other nodes to diagnose it timely and quickly, which has become an outstanding problem. Designing some self-diagnosis and self-reparation schemes that meet mobile topology demand with high efficiency and good performance is an important but difficult problem for wireless mesh networks. We organize our dissertation in three parts. First, basic concepts, features and applications of WMNs will be introduced, then give a detailed prescription about research status of the fault diagnosis. Second, based on the comparison model diagnostic approaches, a hierarchical, distributed diagnostic scheme is proposed, which can diagnose faulty nodes accurately to improve the reliability of the network. Third, under the hierarchical topology structure of WMNs and modified comparison model, an optimized self-fault diagnosis scheme is designed, which is hierarchical and distributed. Further more, the shortest path spanning tree is also employed to execute faulty nodes diagnose timely and quickly. Both performance and simulation results prove that the proposed protocol substantially reduce the system communication complexity and time complexity. At last, according to fault diagnostic protocol above, we proposes a local topology recovery technology based fault recovery scheme in the scenario of low communication and energy consumption to achieve topology fault-recovery and improve the fault-tolerant ability that guarantee the normal operation of the network.
