The main difference between high-speed long-span unrepeatered opticaltransmission system and high-speed long-distance system is that powered activeequipment can not be employed in the transmission line. Initially, such0a system ismainly used in submarine cable systems. With the subsequent development, it is appliedto complex geography and climate conditions, such as mountains, deserts, virgin forests,swamps, lakes, and places short of power supply. Since construction and maintenancecosts are very low, it has very important applications in terrestrial optical fibercommunication.The main research content is presented below:1. The mechanism of the MZ modulator is researched. Generation anddemodulation of various modulation formats are simulated. The performanceof various modulation formats is also compared by simulation.2. The nonlinear effects in optical fiber are theoretically interpreted and analyzed.Based on the theoretical analysis, the nonlinear suppression methods has beenproposed and simulated, and the results are also discussed.3. Various structures of ROPA are analyzed. Characteristics of ROPA areresearched by simulation. Unrepeated system equipped with ROPA istheoretically analyzed and simulated. The factors that affecting systemperformance are analyzed. The main parameters are optimized to achieve abetter result.4. The mechanism of Raman amplification is researched. The characteristics ofdifferent Raman amplification methods in unrepeated system are discussed.Counter-pumped unrepeated system and the effects that caused by the mainparameters are simulated and the results are also discussed.5. Raman amplification and the Remote Pump hybrid system are proposed andsimulated. The main parameters of the system are discussed and optimized.
