Microwave photonics is a new subject developed in recent years, it combines theadvantages of the microwave technology and photon technology. Microwave photonicssystem uses opto-electronic devices instead of traditional electronic devices, overcometraditional electronics in the signal processing of electronic bottleneck. It has manyadvantages over the conventional electronics microwave system, such as immunity toelectromagnetic interference, large bandwidth, low loss, small size and light weight,etc. The research content of microwave photonics are electronic devices work inmicrowave frequency and signal processing using electronic devices.First,a brief overview is given about the formation background, developmenthistory, application and key technology and device of microwave photonics. Then threemicrowave photonics signal processing technologies are studied, including microwavesignal optical production, microwave photonic signal frequency conversion andmeasurement. In this paper, the frequency conversion with bandpass filtering scheme isverified, and a deep research on the frequency measurement technology is given. In theamplitude comparison function method, a lookup table is established throughsimulation experiments, and its feasibility is validated. Then a frequency measurementmethod based on optical asynchronous sampling is proposed, and the influences of thesampling frequency and signal-to-noise ratio on the measuring result are analyzed. Thesimulation experiments prove that this method can measure multiple signals receivedat the same time, its bandwidth reaches to40GHz with a high accuracy.
