Beef intelligent grading technology, which is necessary for beef production and identification in the future, is a fusion across multiple disciplines, that related to histology and anatomy, slaughtering and processing technology, computer image processing, database management and other disciplines. Its research and application, which can improve the proportion of high-quality beef production and our competitiveness of beef products in the international market, promote the healthy development of beef industry and the formation of modern agricultural management, has important significance in China. With the machine vision and other intelligent detection technology, beef intelligent grading system, which has high efficiency and multi-function, is applied to the production line of cattle slaughtering and processing gradually.Depending on the modern agriculture industry(beef industry) technology system projects in China(number:nycytx-38)and the agricultural research achievements conversion project(number:SQ2011ECC100043)in agriculture ministry of China, based on the system "Intelligent Grading System for Beef Cuts ",which is designed by our research group, the application of intelligent detection technology in beef carcass grading system was studied.According to the specific production process in domestic cattle slaughtering enterprise, combined with technology of serial communication, embedded system, wireless communication, database and barcode printing, the intelligent beef carcass grading system was designed, with which the image of beef carcass rib-eye can be acquired portably and transmitted over wireless channel, the beef carcass can be graded by the image information, the information of weight and grade can be stored in database, the barcode used in the cattle slaughtering enterprise can be printed.The design and implementation of the system’s hardware platforms and software were implemented. Hardware platform components:with OMAP3530as core processing chip, combined with the modules of image acquisition, wireless communication and touch screen. the embedded terminal, which is suitable to acquire the image of beef carcass rib-eye in the production process, was designed. Weighing instrument was selected to suite the existing weighing platform. The server, which can cooperate with the embedded terminal and the weighing platform, was selected. And the barcode printer conformed to the enterprise was selected. Software components:embedded Linux development environment was constructed in the embedded terminal, in the development environment, the programs of image acquisition and Socket communication were developed. With Visual C++6.0in the server, the programs of serial communication, Socket communication, carcass automatic grading, storage and query on beef carcass information database, and barcode printing were developed. The system overall debugging was accomplished at last.
