With the development of information science and technology, people’s demand for computing and storage resources is increased. Cloud Computing seems to be a good solution to resolve resource utilization problem which is caused by great resource demand. At the same time, with virtualization technology gradually mature, especially in the field of server area, more and more companies consider using some open source virtualization technology to construct cloud computing platform to provide public cloud services or meet its own private cloud demand.Whether what type of cloud platform is, its computation and storage is focus on virtual machines. For providing some customized image services based on the uniform virtual machine image and ensuring virtual machine’s tolerant ability and high availability, many cloud platform solutions provide snapshot function. According to the process of snapshot, with the help of copy-on-write snapshot technology this paper uses open source cloud computing platform for experimental platform and introduces two schemes to speed up the snapshot and recovery rate, how to reduce the network transmission and snapshot image storage and how to improve the efficiency of snapshot process. According to the snapshot image storage, this paper adopts three kinds of data de-duplication methods and design the snapshot image de-duplication storage schemes to reduce image server storage pressure. Finally, this paper contrasts various schemes mentioned before and gives out the analysis result. In the snapshot process optimization scheme, by use of the snapshot of the way this paper has prepared, the virtual machine snapshot and recovery rate significantly speed up. In the snapshot image storage, with the help of de-duplication schemes of this paper it can effectively reduce repetitive data storage and reduce storage pressure.
