Micro laser is an important optical device in both research and applied field. In this thesis we realized a micro laser based on a nanowire and a silica microcavity hybrid structure.Semiconductor nanowires have attracted much attention due to its unique optical features such as small diameter, high gain and high refractive index. While whispering-gallery-mode (WGM) micro resonator with high-Q have paved the way for realizing of new type of micro photonic devices. In this work we combine CdSe nanowire with WGM microdisk to get hybrid structure microlaser. When pumping with532nm pulse laser, a multi-mode laser with center wavelength around710nm could be observed. The threshold could reach as low as50μJcm-2, which is the lowest threshold of semiconductor nanowire laser to the best of our knowledges. The free spectral range (FSR) of the multimode laser is consistent with the FSR of WGM micro resonator. The hybrid structure micro laser combines advantages of high gain of semiconductor nanowires and high quality factor of WGM microcavities, which offers a new approach to fabricate micro-/nanophotonic devices.
