Recently stereoscopic display technology has become increasingly mature whilehigh definition television and glasses-free3D terminals are coming into people’s life,which greatly promote the development of stereo video business. At the same timenetwork technology has rapidly developed. Compared with traditional ways, networkis very rapid and convenient so that people prefer enjoying the stereo video serviceson internet. In order to deal with the complicated network environment, many newreliable transmission technologies have emerged recently including fountain codestechnology. Fountain codes gain a lot of attention for their outstanding performanceand have been applied in stereo video transmission areas. In addition, according to thecharacteristics of compression technology and human stereo visual system, moreprotection for some key data can help to improve the reconstruction quality of stereovideo. Therefore, the research on unequal error protection (UEP) fountain codes inthis paper will has important theoretical significance and practical values.The fountain codes studied in this paper are duplication fountain (DF) codes withUEP property. They mainly use duplication technology to provide unequal errorprotection for data and have advantages of convenience and easy operation. DF codesvirtually duplicate data of different importance level with unequal repeat factors sothat the most important data can be selected with higher probability than beforebecause of the proportion increase, obtaining more powerful protection. This paperelaborates on the coding rules of DF codes and puts forward some new concepts.Asymptotic properties of DF codes under the iterative decoding are investigated andupper and lower bounds on maximum-likelihood (ML) decoding error probabilities offnite-length DF codes are derived. Further, good UEP property is showed directlywith simulations and proposal are given to improve the performance of DF codes.Finally, applications are given in this paper which can offer a good direction forfurther study.
