The technology of computer aided design is very extensive in the apparel industryrecently. With the development of3D graphics,2D CAD system’s maturation and clothes’customization individually,3D garments’ CAD systems dedicated to the simulation ofgarments’ virtual try-on effect has been becoming a hot spot and a challenging topics inthe research field of computer graphics. This paper makes discussion and research on thembased on the method of physical simulation.Firstly, to achieve logical modeling, we build the garment hierarchical model.Garments’ information is done with a way of hierarchical distributed processing in thestructure. It is divided into seaming information and patch information which includes gridpoints and boundary contour composed of boundary and border. This work not onlyprovides a basic data structure for organizing garments’ information in a unified way andhierarchical model for setting seaming information.Secondly, to improve the efficiency and accuracy when setting seaming information,we draw two-dimensional piece’s boundary and determine its border. The relationshipbetween border frame and boundary points is built. Then the seaming information betweencorresponding boundary points can be set automatically when a pair of border frames isselected. To avoid the problem of its cluttered display in2D background, we show theseaming information in3D space immediately.Thirdly, in order to simulate the clothes’ physical properties and behaviour addedforce, we construct the mass-spring model based on piece’s triangular grid. NewtonSecond Law is applied to analyze force and get motivation equation of the mass whosesolution is getted with verlet numerical integration. We add seaming force on piece’sseaming points according to the seaming information. The pieces move closer to eachother under the seaming force and the seaming process is implemented. To achieve avariety of garments’ virtual try-on effect, the classical method of seaming process isextended and applied to the T-shaped suture type. Finally, by using VC++, OpenGL and MFC on Windows platform, we design a simulation system of garments’ virtual try-on effect to validate the effectiveness of themethods proposed.
