With the development of television news commentary, television and televisionnews commentators are developing rapidly. As one of the main part, television newscommentators are getting more and more concern from the theorists, the mediaindustry and the audience. Now, the study situation in mainland is behind the practice,and the guiding role of theory to practice is not obvious, especially the lack oftelevision news commentators ability. This article discusses the news professionalcompetence and language skills of television news commentators from the point ofcurrent situation, comparison and development, and discusses how to train theabilities.This article is divided into four parts:Chapter one focuses on television news commentators’ definition and functionfrom the point of comparison with other media staff;Chapter two focuses on the course of development, and analyzes therepresentatives and masterpiece, and discusses the current situation;Chapter three discusses the two main abilities of television news commentators,and they are the news professional competence and language skills.Chapter four concludes the paper, and discusses how to train commentators fromthe point of new media, international communication and personal style.
