For the United States,19th century is an important period of development; the westward movement was in full swing. In the process, education had always been as an indispensable aspect constantly innovated, promoting the development of the American western economy and society, and women participated in it as roles like students, teachers and electors. However, their roles as well as other western women were ignored by historians, so there are no related system and special materials. Until the1960s, American history effected by various social movements, especially the influence of the feminist movement, people began taking attention to the western women. Meanwhile, some documents, diaries, photos about west women were edited and published, which provided the precious materials for the researchers. This article firstly combs the condition of education in American west, and then bases on these materials to describe women’s involvement in education, contributions for the western education, the difficulties they faced, and analyzes the impacts of their actions. In the analysis of women’s role in the American west in the19th century, I have always paid attention to the specific environment in the west, and compared it with the eastern women in the same period.
